[ARCHIVED] Announcement from the Columbia Emergency Management Agency

As part of the implementation of the new City-wide emergency siren warning system, we recently began sounding the new chimes at Noon and 6:00 P.M.  The fire siren and tornado siren components will be online in the immediate future once we finalize some additional software development for the telecommunications office.  As part of the new system we identified 3 separate and distinct tones for tornado, fire, and the noon and 6:00 alerts.  The new system includes 5 sirens strategically located throughout the City resulting in better coverage.  For some residents, that translates to hearing sirens that previously were not heard.  We ask for your patience as we all adjust to the new tones.  Additional information will be provided as we launch the fire and tornado tones.
